A Brief Overview of Medical Negligence

Prior to July 2003, I was a vibrant, healthy mother, wife, PTSA representative, and Board Member of the Redmond Sammamish Boys & Girls club. I had just finished putting on the Sammamish Community Carnival. On July 14th all that changed when I was referred to a Rheumatologist for a mild rash. Within twenty minutes he diagnosed me with mixed/connective tissue disorder, a potentially life threatening disorder of the immune system similar to Lupus.  Unfortunately, the diagnosis was completely wrong....

I was prescribed numerous drugs over the next year, including Methotexate, a toxic chemo drug.  It was during this time that we started to realize that the "bare-bones" health care plan we had (the only one we could afford as a small business owner) was leaving us thousands of $$$ in debt.  The drug Methotexate is very toxic to the liver and within a year I had the starting symptoms of liver failure.

I am now on the waiting list for a liver transplant like so many others in our country, who are in need of health services and are uninsured or worse paying premiums to be under-insured.  Almost a million individuals in the state of Washington and more nationally are at-risk for losing their homes, businesses and potentially their lives.  I am just one story of the health-care nightmare in our country!

Read more about my story and our plight with the health care system by clicking the links on this site.  Please consider making a donation to help defer my medical costs for a $250,000 liver transplant which I hope to receive at the University of Washington Medical Center.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my story!
